AGM – Tues 4th July

The club committee again invites you to the ninth AGM of Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club to be held on Tuesday 4th July 2023 commencing at 7:30pm.

The meeting will be at The Three Swans (21, High Street, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 7NJ) and we should be in the small ground floor area to the rear of premises adjacent to the car park.

The meeting will be hosted by the current club chairperson (Steve Chapman). All committee member positions are up for election/re-election with a current vacancy for “Parent Representative”, “Welfare Officer” and “First Aid Officer”.

It would be appreciated if you would please advise the club secretary Lynda Haynes (lindahaynes@harboroughlcjuniors.org.uk) if you are able to attend this meeting and also whether you are interested in volunteering or in any committee member positions.

The BIG HIT Junior Coaching – Free Sessions

The club will be offering FREE one-hour sessions on Wednesday 15th March 2023 from:

  • 4:00pm to 5:00pm (school years 3 to 10).
  • 5:00pm to 6:00pm (school years 6 – 11).
  • 6:00pm to 7:00pm (school years 10-13).

These are part of Badminton England’s The BIG HIT Week – YONEX ALL England Edition. These sessions are targeted towards Juniors as a free trial session for those new to badminton. The junior coaching session will be fun, engaging and encourage juniors to play badminton more regularly.

Yonex All England 2023 – Free Tickets

Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club have obtained 20x complimentary all day Category C tickets for the Yonex All England Championships for Thursday 16th March 2023. For more information see https://www.allenglandbadminton.com/.

These are being made available to Junior Members of the club including their parents and will be allocated based on first come, first served basis.

Initially the free tickets will be restricted to two tickets per application (i.e. the Junior member & their parent). If any tickets are still left over would be made available to the people who have already been allocated tickets.

Below is a suitable letter that as a parent/carer you could use to seek permission a child to be away from school to attend this event. If you would like tickets, then please contact Ray Phipkin (rayphipkin@harboroughlcjuniors.org.uk) as soon as possible and certainly by Wednesday 8th March 2023.

Doubles Tournament – Sat 11th Feb 2023

The Derek Meakin Junior Level Doubles Tournament will be held on Saturday 11th February 2023 at Whitwick & Coalville Leisure Centre, Stevenson’s Way, Coalville, Leicestershire LE67 3FE.

This Doubles tournament is a great junior Badminton event for all players of the club to consider entering, especially as this tournament excludes any player who trains in with the Leicestershire Performance Centre at any weekday sessions (Mon to Thurs) or has played in any County matches in the current season.

Players do not have to be current members of Badminton England, so you do not have to enter with a player from the club therefore could be just a friend or if you do not have a partner just insert on the form  “Partner Required”.

In the past members of our club have been winners & runners-up in the different age groups.

The tournament includes:

  • Boys Doubles (primary aged up to year 6) – 9am-11am
  • Girls Doubles (primary aged up to year 6) – 9am-11am
  • Boys Doubles (years 7-9) = 11am-1pm
  • Girls Doubles (years 7-9) = 11am-1pm
  • Boys Doubles (years 10-12) – 1pm-3pm
  • Girls Doubles (years 10-12) – 1pm-3pm

Note that players entering with an older partner out of their age group must play up in the older age group. For full details, please see/download the entry form below.

Entries must reach the organiser (Carole Spencer) by FRIDAY 3rd FEBRUARY 2023.

Please send entry form & fee of £5 per person to the organiser, with cheques made payable to Whitwick Juniors B. C. or alternatively pay by cash on the day.

Summer Pay As You Play

We are again offering our Pay As You Play junior badminton sessions during August on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 3rd August 2022
  • Wednesday 17th August 2022
  • Wednesday 24th August 2022

There will be two sessions as follows:

  • 4-5pm – for school years 3 to 11.
  • 5-6pm – for school years 8 to 13.

The sessions will be £4 per session and non-members (e.g. school friends) are welcome.
