About

On 17th July 2013, with Harborough Leisure Centre no longer offering junior badminton coaching, a new independent self-supporting “Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club” was formed. The club began by offering 7 weeks of open sessions from age 8+, with an attendance of 24 junior players.

From September 2013, the club affiliated to Badminton England (JNR/1403) with all club members paying the Club England Junior Badminton Registration Affiliation Fee.

On 4th December 2013, a club committee was formed and a constitution introduced. The age group was amended for club members to be between aged 8 to under 16 (school year 11). On 24th April 2014, the club was awarded with Badminton England Premier Club & Sport England Clubmark.

In June 2014 a club member designed the club logo and this was later incorporated into club shirts, shorts and skorts, which were made available to club members.

From January 2015, 6-7pm sessions were added to follow the existing 5-6pm sessions. The first AGM was also held and the age range for members adjusted to ages 8-17 (school year 12).

The first annual club internal tournament was held in 2015 for Boys Singles & Doubles (U10s, U12s, U14s, U17s) and Girls Singles & Doubles (U12s, U14s & U17s), with trophies presented to winners & runners-up, along with a trophy for outstanding club member.

In January 2016, the club received funding for two volunteers to attend the Badminton England UKCC Level 1 coaching award and six members attended “Safeguarding & Protecting Children” course.

In 2016, a satellite SmashUp! club session was added from 4-5pm for ages 8-17. This became part of the main club in 2017.

For the 2017-18 season, the club is offering sessions from 4-5pm, 5-6pm and 6-7pm with level 2 and 1 coaches in attendance.

More information about the club can be found in our Welcome Leaflet.
